BRIEF HISTORY - 略歴

1987年生 宮崎県出身　武蔵野美術大学造形学部 日本画コース 卒業

日常の風景や人々の営みに潜む「おかしさ」をテーマに日本画技法を用いながらアクリル絵具やキャンバスなど、ミクストメディアを取り入れた絵画を制作。見慣れた物事や景色を自由に組み合わせ、独自の感性と視点で創造するその作品は”遊び絵”や”見立絵”の要素を持ち、様々なアートショーなどで高い評価を受けている。

近年では「渋谷・宮下公園 アディダスブランドセンター」RAYARD MIYASHITA PARK 店舗内装への作画提供やNHK ドラマ10「大奥」福士蒼汰ほか衣装の絵付けを担当するなど多方面で活躍している。

I was born in 1987 in Miyazaki prefecture, on Japan’s southern island of Kyushu. I’m a graduate of Japanese Painting at the College of Art and Design at Musashino University.

Under the theme of “oddness hidden in everyday scenery and people’s activities,” I create paintings that incorporate mixed media such as acrylic paint and canvas using the techniques of Japanese painting. I naturally entwine familiar objects and scenes with my own unique sensibility and perspective to create pieces with elements of Asobi-e and Mitate-e. My work has received high acclaim at many art shows.

My recent achievements include providing paintings for the interior of the flagship Adidas Brand Center store in Mitsui’s Rayard Miyashita Park in Tokyo’s trendy Shibuya district, as well as painting costumes worn by actor Sota Fukushi and others in NHK’s Ooku television drama series.

STATEMENT - ステートメント

私は日常の中にある様々な物や景色を身近な別の物に置き換える"見立て遊び"をテーマに絵画制作している。例えば、宝石に群がる人々の様子を昆虫に置き換えると、"スイカに集まる虫たち"のイメージが浮かんでくる。ある事象を別の物に見立て連想し、そこか ら得られるユーモアとシュルレアリスムを制作イメージの根幹に置いている。

また、社会の事象に踊らされる人々の滑稽さや矛盾する心理など、人間の複雑な感情にも着目している。人々が持つそれらの情景を人形や日用品、植物など人間以外のイメージに変換することで、観賞者が作品を観たとき、それぞれの意識内でこの社会の滑稽さや矛盾性、可笑しさなどを浮き彫にさせることを試みている。

"見立て遊び"をテーマにする理由として、幼少期に触れた"図鑑"や"浮世絵"の一種である遊び絵が影響している。

幼少期、世界中で起きている複雑な事象をそれぞれの単語として記憶はできたものの、理解できない事が多かった。しかし、それらのイメージを分解して図や数式、物語のように連想していく"図鑑・図解"や、"浮世絵"における見立て絵、遊び絵などの手法を知ることによって、その事象の意味や自己との関係性を理解することができた。

楽しみながら様々な物事を理解できるという点で"図鑑"と"浮世絵"の共通点はとても多く、文字に頼らずに広くの情報を伝えること、イメージを置き換えて連想しながら繋げていく表現手法に魅力を感じるようになった。歌川国芳(1798-1861)の「みかけはこ わいがとんだいい人だ」のように、錯視と教訓を交えた絵の他にも、学術的な視点と芸術的な視点が1枚の絵に並存しているボタニカルアートの影響も大きい。

ある事象とは一見無関係の物で構成された平面絵画は、シュルレアリスムのような異世界感を持ちつつも、浮世絵的な"遊び"を含むことで、より強く明快に、客観的な視点で現代の様々な側面を映し出す。見慣れたものや固定観念に対して、独自の視点と仕掛けを持つ新たな絵画表現の追求をしている。

I create paintings based on the theme “playful Mitate,” taking various objects and scenery found in everyday life and replacing them with other familiar objects. For example, if we were to replace the image of people swarming around to catch a glimpse of jewelry with that of insects, you can imagine a swarm of insects gathering on a watermelon. I associate one phenomenon with another, and the humor and surrealism derived from this forms the basis of my creative images.

I also focus on the complex emotions of humans, such as the humorous and contradictory psychology of people whose behavior gets manipulated by social circumstances. By converting such human scenes into non-human images using things like dolls, products in our day-to-day lives, or plants in my works, I try to give the viewer a sense of the humor, the contradiction, and the absurdness of this society in their own consciousness.

The reason I chose “playful Mitate” as the theme for my work comes from the influence of the picture reference books and Asobi-e, which are a type of Ukiyo-e, that I was exposed to in my childhood.

As a child, I was able to memorize the words that explain the many complex things happening in the world, but there were often things that I couldn't fully understand. However, by learning about picture reference books and illustrations, which can break down these images and reassemble them like diagrams or formulas or stories, and by learning Ukiyo-e techniques such as Asobi-e and Mitate-e, I became able to understand the meaning of such phenomenon as well as their relationship with me.

There are many similarities between picture reference books and Ukiyo-e, given they both enable you to understand various things while at the same time having fun. I became attracted to the way they can convey a wide range of information without relying on text, and the expressive techniques that connect images by replacing and re-assembling them. In addition to paintings that combine optical illusions and lessons like in the Kuniyoshi Utagawa (1798-1861) classic At First Glance He Looks Fierce But He is Really a Kind Person, I have also been greatly influenced by botanical art, which combines academic and artistic perspectives into a single painting.
